About Sonja Donaldson
I live in Santa Barbara, California. I have owned Border Collies for about 15 years, but only started competing with them about 4 years ago when my wonderful Puck came into my life and the breeders asked that I show her as a condition of purchase. I have since trained, shown, and trialed both her and my just turned one year old puppy in conformation, herding, agility, and a bit of obedience. Herding is my favorite venue, and also the most difficult. I have friends on all “sides” of the Border Collie fence (working/sport/conformation) and I respect and admire them and the dogs they have chosen to share their lives. I so enjoy these events that I squeeze them in at any opportunity I have, even though some (herding) require a 2 hour drive each way for lessons. I am particularly interested in pedigrees and health issues. I hope someday to be both a herding and a conformation judge. I am the President of the Border Collie Club of Greater Los Angeles and Chair the Border Collie Society of America Judge Selection Committee. I also train, raise, and evaluate canine candidates for the National Disaster Search Dog Foundation. I am a geologist and the Director of Environmental Affairs for an aerospace manufacturing company. First and foremost I enjoy spending as much time as I can with my husband, daughter, and of course - our dogs.
